TRACK NOTES

I first came across this song when I was asked to arrange if a women’s choir called Atomaig Piseag (yup). The story is brim-full of vivid imagery, very MacFadyen, and deliciously written at his own expense. The story takes place at Old New Year (the Callainn) where he gets so merry that he pays court and goes dancing with the all statues in George Square from war heroes to poets to royalty. (The rest of the song is a different story, but the pay-off to his wife after using the New Year bird as a club is one at least that won’t need much plucking.) We also couldn’t resist a nod to Jake Thackray’s ‘Statues’, another similar escapade from a favourite songwriter.
